Barry reminisces...
We were kindly guided by volunteers to a site in the Toros Mountains,
at a village where a Roman fortress sat atop a mesa-like hill. It was
fun to look for the proper ramp through the walls as we spiralled up the
hill. Remains of officers' housing, ramparts, and cavernous structures
were still visible. Also, we had a tour of the largest mosque in Turkey
and all of Europe. It was absolutely gorgeous inside with the hand-crafted
stained glass windows, gold leaf columns, and blue Turkish tile mosaics.
The high point, so to speak, was the elevator ride to the third balcony
of the 99 meter high minaret. The view was incredible.
